Giant Angora First Haircut and Pre-Show Trim | Neslie Fluff & Kahlúa

Subtitle: From baby coat harvest to pre-show prep, a real look inside Giant Angora grooming

There is something extra special about first haircuts in the rabbitry.

Not just because of the wool… although let’s be honest, that part is pretty amazing… but because it marks a transition. A moment where all that careful growing, feeding, grooming, and watching starts to turn into something tangible.

If you want to see the full process, be sure to watch the video. There’s nothing quite like seeing it all unfold in real time.

Watch a Giant Angora’s first haircut and pre-show trim tips, plus fiber harvest insights and breeding goals.

Miss Neslie Fluff had her very first haircut, and wow… she did not disappoint. This girl is absolutely loaded with wool. I started trimming her during my live session, but with that much coat, I made sure to give her a couple breaks and finished later in the day. Keeping them comfortable and stress-free always comes first.

When it was all said and done, she gave me over 6 ounces of long, luscious baby show coat. The kind of fiber that makes spinners light up.

And yes… her entire harvest is now available on my Sinfully Soft website. If you’ve ever wanted to get your hands on a true baby coat from a well-grown Giant Angora, this is the good stuff.

Now, while Neslie was getting her big moment, her brother Mr Kahlúa was getting something much smaller… just a pre-trim.

He was sheared just about 3 months ago.  So, he’s growing his official 2nd coat, not a baby coat, and this harvest will definitely be used in upcoming Sinfully Soft commercially spun yarns.  He’s not quite ready for a full harvest yet, his coat measures just under 3 inches. I’m giving him about one more month to really finish growing out his coat on the top and sides. But even at this stage, there’s so much to love about him.

His wool is beautiful as it is the correct Giant wool structure I want. Easy to maintain. He carries all the Giant furnishings I’m always looking for. And his personality? Calm, steady, easy to work with. Those traits matter just as much as anything else in a breeding program.

Now, I’ll be honest… his body type isn’t where I want it for my long-term goals. And that’s part of this journey too. Always refining. Always improving. Always making thoughtful decisions.

Because at the end of the day, my focus remains the same. Improving body type, strengthening color, maintaining exceptional temperaments, and preserving that unmistakable Giant Angora look with outstanding wool structure.

Both of these rabbits come from a pairing I’m really proud of. Their dam, Miss Twinkle, is a Black Giant/French F1 cross, and their sire is my Grand Champion Fawn French buck, Punkin Spice. These babies are a beautiful example of what that combination can produce.

This video also shows something I get asked about all the time… what does a real pre-big show trim actually look like?

About two months before a show, I like to shear the belly and groin area. It keeps the rabbit more comfortable and allows them to focus on growing out that big, impressive show coat without the stress of matting or buildup underneath.

It’s simple, practical, and makes a big difference.

And as for Miss Neslie Fluff… she’s not done yet. With 9 ARBA legs already under her belt, she’s now stepping into her next role. Motherhood.

I’ve got my eye on a stunning Chocolate Agouti Giant buck for her, and I cannot wait to see what those babies bring. If her first chapter is any indication, the future is going to be pretty exciting.
