Pricing Angora Handspun Yarn with Confidence

Why fair pricing honors your yarn, your rabbits, and your work.

One of the hardest parts of being a fiber artist is not always the spinning, the grooming, the washing, the labeling, or even the long hours at the wheel.

Sometimes the hardest part is putting a price on the finished skein.

This week on my live YouTube, I’m talking about something I know many of us struggle with: How to price handspun Angora yarn with confidence.

And not just any yarn — Angora yarn.

Angora is different. It is soft, warm, airy, light, and luxurious. But when that fiber comes from rabbits, we raise ourselves, there is a whole story behind every ounce.

That fiber represents feeding, grooming, coat care, breeding decisions, cage cleaning, health checks, sorting, spinning, finishing, and years of learning. It is not “just fiber,” and it certainly is not free just because it came from our own barn.

A skein of handspun Angora yarn carries more than yardage.

  • It carries time.

  • It carries care.

  • It carries experience.

  • It carries the story of the rabbits behind it.

  • And that is why pricing matters.

Why Underpricing Hurts

I say this gently, because I have done it too.

Many of us underprice because we want to be kind. We worry someone will think our yarn is too expensive. We worry no one will buy it. We think, “Well, I love doing this, so maybe I shouldn’t charge too much.”

But loving something does not mean our labor has no value.

When we underprice handmade luxury fiber, we accidentally teach customers that this kind of work should be cheap. That hurts the maker, the rabbits, and the larger fiber community.

  • Fair pricing is not selfish.

  • Fair pricing honors the yarn.

  • Fair pricing honors the animals.

  • Fair pricing honors the skill.

  • Fair pricing honors the customer by telling the truth about what they are buying.

My Three-Step Pricing Philosophy

In today’s live, I’ll be talking through the big-picture philosophy behind my pricing method.

I use a simple three-step approach:

  • First, I look at the material value. What fiber went into the skein? Was it pure Angora, a blend, prime fiber, dyed fiber, silk, wool, or something extra special?

  • Second, I look at labor and production costs. How much time went into prepping, spinning, plying, washing, drying, labeling, photographing, packaging, and getting that yarn ready?

  • Third, I do a final value check. Does the finished price honor the fiber, the work, and the uniqueness of the finished skein?

The goal is not to make pricing complicated. The goal is to stop guessing.

When we have a method, we can stand behind our price with more confidence.

Watch for the upcoming detailed video series!

I am currently working on a more in-depth series where I walk through the entire pricing process step by step. In that series, we’ll open the pricing worksheet, go through the formula, look at real examples, and talk through how to build a price that truly reflects your fiber, your time, and your finished yarn. That detailed series will be published inside the Angora Artisan Academy.

Stay tuned — it’s coming soon! You can find the Angora Artisan Academy on Sinfully Soft's website under the “Learn” tab.

Plus… Baby Bunnies

And yes, because this is me, there will also be baby bunnies.

We’ll talk about yarn pricing, Angora value, the emotional side of charging fairly, and why every skein is more than “just fiber plus time.”

So, grab your coffee, your spinning, your knitting, or your crochet, and come hang out with me live. Let’s talk about Angora yarn, fair pricing, and giving ourselves permission to value the work we do.
