This is Why I Hate Plucking

When the timing is off, the rabbit decides the plan, and you learn to roll with it.

I had full intentions of finishing Mr Love Shack with a nice, clean shearing.

Quick session. Get it done. Move on.

Well… life had other plans.

Between meetings, schedule shifts, and everything else going on, I didn’t get back to him as soon as I should have. By the time I did, he was already molting.

And once you’re there, you don’t get to choose anymore.

You go with what the rabbit gives you.

So, we plucked. All. Of. It.

Now I know there are people who love plucked fiber. And I’ll be honest, it is beautiful. No blunt ends, lovely to spin, all the things.

But the process? Yeah… I don’t love it.

It takes time. A lot of time. And when you’ve got a rabbit like Mr Love Shack with a big coat and a busy personality, you’re not exactly cruising through it.

He’s at that stage where everything is interesting. Tugging on my sweatshirt, checking out the table, deciding whether he wants to cooperate or not. You know the type.

So, we worked through it.

Slow. Gentle. One small section at a time.

Because here’s the real lesson.

It’s not about sticking to your plan.

It’s about working with the rabbit in front of you.

I could have rushed it. I could have pushed harder. But that’s not the kind of experience I want him to have. I want him to come back to the table next time and think, “okay… this is inconvenient, but I’ll survive.”

That matters more than anything.

He’s a fantastic rabbit. Strong wool, beautiful crimp, and just enough personality to keep me humble.

And now that his coat is coming off, he’s more comfortable, back in his space, probably wondering why I made such a big deal out of it.

I had to laugh a few times through this one.

Because this is real barn life.

Plans change. Rabbits don’t read your schedule. And sometimes you just settle in, grab another cup of coffee, and get it done.

And yes… once he’s finished, I might be looking at setting him up for date night. We’ll see which girl catches my eye.

If you want to see it all play out, the video shows every bit of it. The good, the slow, and the “well… here we are” moments.
