A closer look at teamwork, ARBA rule changes, growth tracking, and the fuzzy future of colored Giant Angoras.
There is a lot happening in the world of colored Giant Angoras right now, and boy howdy, it feels like we are stepping into a whole new chapter.
In this week’s live, I talked about the difference between the larger Colored Giant Angora Village and the brand-new Village Elders group. I also shared some big thoughts on the ARBA rule changes, the Chocolate Agouti Giant Angora COD, the new proof of interest requirements, and why teamwork is going to matter more than ever. And because I am me, of course I had to show off the brand-new babies too.
The Colored Giant Angora Village
The Colored Giant Angora Village is the big, welcoming community.
This is for anyone who loves colored Giant Angoras, wants to learn more, wants to cheer us on, or simply enjoys watching the progress. You do not have to be an active breeder to be part of the bigger village. You can be a supporter, learner, cheerleader, dreamer, or future breeder.
We need all of that.
The more people who understand and support colored Giant Angoras, the stronger our foundation becomes.
What Are the Village Elders?
The Village Elders group is a smaller, more focused working group.
This group is for active breeders and dedicated supporters who are ready to roll up their sleeves and help move colored Giant Angoras forward. The main focus right now is the Chocolate Agouti Giant Angora COD, but the bigger dream includes Opal, Lynx, Chestnut, and the future of all colored Giant Angoras.
This is not a drama group. This is not a gossip group. This is a working group with a shared goal.
We want kindness.
We want honesty.
We want communication.
We want teamwork.
We want colored Giant Angoras to succeed.
That is why there is a contract. Not to be scary. Not to make things complicated. Just to make sure we are all on the same page and working toward the same vision.
Why the ARBA Rule Changes Matter
The ARBA rule changes are a big deal.
When I worked on the Chestnut Giant Angora COD years ago, the process was much more closed in. The presentation animals had to be bred and owned by the people on the COD team. That made things very controlled, but it also limited who could truly participate.
Now things have changed.
The new proof of interest requirement means that for the Chocolate Agouti COD to move forward, we need more than one household involved. We need multiple breeders producing, entering, and showing quality Chocolate Agouti Giant Angoras.
That is both harder and more exciting.
It is harder because I cannot control what happens in everyone else’s barn. But it is exciting because it opens the door for more breeders to be part of the process.
This is no longer something one person can do alone.
Why We Need Teamwork
The Chocolate Agouti COD cannot succeed with one breeder doing all the work.
We need breeders raising babies, tracking growth, evaluating type, watching wool quality, sharing stock, communicating clearly, and helping each other make better breeding decisions.
The more organized we are, the better chance we have of moving forward with confidence.
That is why the Village Elders group matters. It gives us a place to gather, talk, plan, share, and support each other with purpose.
The New Classified Ads Section
One of the new benefits for Village Elders is access to a members-only classified ads section on Sinfully Soft. Facebook is wonderful for networking, but it does not allow animal sales posts. We have to be careful with the rules, and I do not want anyone’s Facebook account or group put at risk. So, I built another option.
The classified ads section gives Village Elders a cleaner way to connect about available rabbits, trades, and breeding opportunities. My personal plan is to offer animals to Village Elders first, then later open certain listings to the public through Discord and eventually a public page.
All sales and agreements are still between the buyer and seller. I am simply providing a place for breeders to connect. It is still new, and we are working out the kinks, but I am pretty excited about it.
Why the Growth Chart Matters
I also shared the Giant Angora grow-out weight chart.
This is something all Giant Angora breeders can participate in. The idea is simple. We track weights over time so we can start seeing real growth patterns in Giant Angoras.
For years, I have wanted my Giants to make senior weight by eight months old. I do not want to wait for a full coat just to make weight. I want strong, big-boned rabbits that are ready to show when they reach the proper age.
But we do not currently have a Giant Angora-specific growth chart.
So, we are going to build one.
Every entry helps. Every rabbit added gives us more information. This is not about judging anyone’s rabbits. It is about gathering data that can help the whole breed.
Better records help us make better breeding decisions.
Better breeding decisions help us build better Giant Angoras.
For the love of Giants, this is one simple way we can learn together.
And Then There Were Babies
Now for the fun part.
I have brand new baby Giant Angoras in the barn, and they are only one day old.
I bred several girls, and the first litters are here. We have chestnuts, chocolate agoutis, whites, and possibly a fawn. There are fat little bellies, sweet mamas, and all kinds of fuzzy promise tucked into those nest boxes.
This is the beginning of a new wave of progress.
My goal is to produce more quality Chocolate Agouti Giant Angoras, have enough to exhibit, and have enough to share with other serious breeders who want to help move this forward.
It is exciting. It is a little overwhelming. It is a whole lot of work.
And yes, it is absolutely worth it.
Final Thoughts
I truly believe this can be a turning point for colored Giant Angoras.
We have the people.
We have the passion.
We have the rabbits.
Now we need organization, communication, and teamwork.
The Village Elders group is one piece of that bigger vision.
For the love of Giants…
Go Team Giants!
